Kevin is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel with over 24 years of active-duty service and two combat deployments to Iraq in 1991 and again in 2006. He also had assignments in Germany, Kansas, California, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, and Kentucky. In 1995 and 1996, he was the US Army TRADOC liaison to the Israeli Defense Forces. Kevin was commissioned in Armor from the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York in 1983.
Since military retirement, Kevin has engaged in local, regional, state, and national politics, first with the Tea Party in 2008 and then with the Republican Party since 2015. He has served as a Georgia State, District and County Committeeman, First Vice Chair of his county party. He worked in support of multiple campaigns and issue advocacy.
Kevin has been a National Republican Liberty Caucus member since 2018, chartered and served as chair of the Manatee County Republican Liberty Caucus and was elected a RLC-FL Director at Large in August 2023. Prior to that he chartered and chaired the Cherokee County Republican Assembly and later the Manatee Sarasota Republican Assembly. He was a Manatee County Republican Executive Committee (MCREC) member 2019-2020.
He has lobbied the Georgia and Florida state legislatures on behalf of Concerned Veterans for America, Americans for Prosperity, Term Limits USA, and the Republican Liberty Caucus.
Kevin has extensive instructional experience since military retirement in 2007, as adjunct faculty at Columbus State University, Perimeter College of Georgia State University, Georgia Military College, Keiser University-Tampa Florida Campus, and was an online professor of American Government for Arizona State University Global Campus. Kevin was a full time ROTC instructor at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He also has five years service as a High School Senior Army Instructor in Georgia and Florida. He has been a substitute k-12 teacher and homeschool cooperative instructor. Kevin is a certified educational consultant/presenter and former financial services distributor.
Kevin’s military education includes the Armor Officer Basic, Mortar Platoon Leader, Armor Officer Advanced, Airborne, and Command and General Staff College. He was awarded a master’s degree in political science from the University of Louisville in May 2007. He is a lifetime member of Disabled American Vets, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Order of World Wars and the American Legion. He hosts a local weekly video podcast, Facebook page. He publishes a newsletter called Military Matters, whose purpose is to educate and inform the community, while honoring those who serve and have served the nation in military uniform. Kevin can be heard on Salem Radio’s America’s Third Watch with Captain Matt Bruce every Tuesday and Thursday morning 5-5:45am.
Kevin is the son of a career enlisted Air Force service member and one of three children. Both parents are deceased. Kevin is married to the former Robyn Dickens, who retired after 34 years of civil service in March 2013 at Fort Benning, Georgia. Kevin and Robyn live in Bradenton, Florida. Kevin has three adult children: John, Stephen and Caitlin of Wichita Falls Texas, stepson, Steven Powell, KY and three grandchildren.
